Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie 2012

Ready — mature

The Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie 2012 is a cooler vintage, more restrained from the outset, it has developed in a direction the warmer years take longer to reach: dried meat, iron, olive, dark fruit now fully integrated rather than primary. The tannins are resolved; the acidity keeps it precise. This is Côte-Rôtie in its secondary phase, with tertiary development beginning to assert itself. Drink now through 2028.

Reviews

Robert Parker - 96

The 2012 Cote Rotie is smoking good and should be up with the top wines from this estate. Inky colored, full-bodied and beautifully concentrated, it offers classic pepper, violets, bacon fat, olive and sweet cassis-like fruits. Opening up with time in the glass, it has the approachable, supple feel of the vintage, yet has more than enough mid-palate depth and fine tannin to keep it drinking beautifully for another two decades.

Vinous - 94

(15% new oak): Deep ruby. Complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red and dark berries, incense, violet and cracked pepper, along with a vibrant mineral overtone. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering intense blackberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that stretch out slowly with air. This concentrated yet lively Côte-Rôtie finishes with superb clarity and even tannins.

Domaine Jamet

Domaine Jamet has worked the steep slopes of Côte-Rôtie since the 1970s, assembling fruit from multiple lieux-dits across both the Côte Brune and Côte Blonde.

The wine is aged in older oak for an extended period — the emphasis is on integration, not extraction. No concessions to modern style. The result is Syrah that reads as place before it reads as fruit.

Terroir

Côte-Rôtie is defined by its gradients — slopes steep enough to require hand-harvesting, with soils of schist and granite that drain fast and retain heat. The distinction between Côte Brune and Côte Blonde, iron-rich versus lighter granite soils, runs through the appellation’s identity. Jamet draws from both.

The southeast exposure and thermal mass of the rock give Syrah here its combination of ripeness and structure — qualities that allow these wines to develop over fifteen years or more.

Private Access, Without the Noise

Beyond the public selection, I occasionally source wines available in very small quantities — offered privately, or never formally listed. Through the Club Grandcru WhatsApp channel, these bottles are shared directly and selectively: mature vintages, single parcels, and bottles that never reach the open market. Early access is reserved for members.
