Charles Lachaux La Croix Blanches 2023

Ready — youthful

Drink the Charles Lachaux La Croix Blanche 2023 between now and 2030, while the fruit still leads. Because it comes from a single 0.35 ha parcel of Pinot Noir planted in the 1970s, this Bourgogne Rouge carries more depth than the appellation suggests. The grapes are fermented as 100% whole clusters, aged twelve months in older barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered. As a result, the style leans on fruit and texture rather than oak.

Charles Lachaux

Charles Lachaux has run Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux in Vosne-Romanée since 2015. Alongside it, he makes a micro-négoce under his own name, which began with Aligoté after the example of his mentor Lalou Bize-Leroy. The Lachaux team picks all the fruit, and the winemaking follows the domaine’s. However, the négoce wines are bottled after a little under a year instead of eighteen months, so they show their fruit earlier.

Terroir

The parcel covers 0.35 ha in the northern part of Vosne-Romanée, planted to Pinot Noir in the 1970s. The soils are stony, pale and well drained, so water does not accumulate around the roots. Because the vines are old, they root deep and give moderate yields. Although the wine is labelled Bourgogne, the site lies within the Vosne-Romanée commune.

Private Access, Without the Noise

Beyond the public selection, I occasionally source wines available in very small quantities — offered privately, or never formally listed. Through the Club Grandcru WhatsApp channel, these bottles are shared directly and selectively: mature vintages, single parcels, and bottles that never reach the open market. Early access is reserved for members.
